Troubleshooting the Treo Dial Up Networking "PPP Link Control Protocol Was Terminated" Error

In 5th grade I would have died laughing if someone said I had a PPP Link Control error. However, nowadays when my Treo tells me this while I'm trying to use DUN I get a little irritated. It's probably the same for you. Luckily, there's a quick and easy workaround you can do until there's an official fix released. Just for clarity here, I'll remind you that, as in my other Treo-related posts, I'm working with a Cingular Treo 650. However, a quick search showed that this problem also occurs with other models (at least other Cingular models). This error seems to occur most often when I take long trips. Specifically, after I have traveled a considerable distance without checking my mail or using the web browser. There seems to be a problem with the way that DUN logs in to the network that results in the error. So to alleviate the problem you just have to get one of the other data services to sign you on to the network first. This is as simple as opening the web browser or checking your email via Versamail (however, making a call will not work). Once you've done this you should be able to log on easily with DUN. If you have any news of software fixes for this problem please post it below.
