It appears that the
Google PageRank update (or 'export' to be more exact) that has started and stopped a couple of times over the past weeks is picking up momentum again. We are now showing different page ranks for all of our sites across the various datacenters. This article will provide you with some tools to help you dissect what your site's current page rank is, why it is there, and where it's going.
A website's
page rank helps determine a site's position in Google's search results for any given search term. Page rank is continually updated internally, but this information is only publicly updated every quarter or so. Because high page ranks can mean big advertising business for websites, the public rollouts are highly anticipated, and many tools have been developed to help predict future page rank scores and to recognize updates as soon as they begin.
The following is a list of some sites that let you check your current page rank across various datacenters:
Dig PageRank - One of the more popular PR checkers. Returns 40 - 60 datacenters (per search. You can search 700+ in all).
SEO Chat's SEO tools - About 20 datacenters can be checked here.
Linkvendor Page Rank tool - Checks 46 data centers and indicates upward or downward movements at each.
Google uses multiple servers to feed search results, and when a public update occurs they are not all updated at the same time. In general, if a query of these datacenters shows different page ranks, an update is underway. When they all report the same values, no update is occurring.
Some sites attempt to predict, based on your current backlinks, what your future page rank will be after the next update. This seems to be more magic than science as these predictions vary quite a bit across the sites listed below. We'll update as to which was most accurate for us after the update completes:
iWebtools - A popular, respected prediction tool. Lists current and predicted PR as well as number of backlinks and an estimation of prediction accuracy. Allows prediction for up to 5 sites at once.
Page Rank Prediction - Simple interface and output, but the website doesn't appear to be updated frequently. The results were considerably lower than other tools.
A site's page rank is based on the quality of the pages that link back to it. To see where a site is receiving backlinks from you can use the tools below:
Backlink Watch - Takes a while if you have a lot of backlinks and produces some redundant links, but shows some pretty interesting information such as whether backlinks use the "no follow" tag.
iWebtools backlink checker - Faster than Backlink Watch but provides less information. Only reports referring page and its pagerank.
Feel free to add your favorite tools below.
Update (5/1/07): It appears our hunch was correct, at least as far as our corner of the internet is concerned. PageRank updated across all of our sites yesterday.

Yes iwebtool seems to have it all. Several of their tools were down when I was writing this article but I'm sure they'll be back soon, if not already.
