QuickSeek by Kensington, the User-Friendliest of All

Once in a while, a device comes along that is so amazing, I would feel criminally negligent not to write about it. The Kensington Quickseek FM Transmitter for your iPod is one such device.

Fixing the Quicken 2007 Display Draw Issue

If you're like me, you use quicken.  Well, If you have read my last posts, you realize that I don't upgrade just for the sake of upgrading.  My theory is "Don't fix what's working".  Well, Intuit has forced me to upgrade from 2004 (which was working just fine, thank you!), to 2007.  The reason they give is that they no longer support 2004's bank update.

The best comment spam

Here at Texxors we filter comment spam the old fashioned way - by manually sorting through each message. We do this by choice, and here's why. There are a ton of great spam filtering services out there, but we like to consider each piece of spam we get as an entry in our "Best Comment Spam" contest. The winners don't get anything except the glory of knowing that they made the list. However, if you see some of your spam posted here and want to come forward to claim it please do so - make sure to include your full name, private email address, and home address. Here is the comment spam that has caught our eyes recently.

It is truly Elite

During the torrent recently in Texas, water actually fell from the sky, as if it were the blood of tech angels, doing battle with the forces of corrosion.  It fell and like acid, damaged the roof of the store I work at.  Damaged it to the point that the roof offered no shelter from the tidal forces in the sky. As we ran around like madmen trying to protect customer units, display models and the stock(failing; forgetting the plasma televisions in the warehouse, 2 million dollars in damage- we have insurance) we had forgotten our precious tech stations.  The keyboards were mostly protected by an overhang, but, the ones up front were left to bear the burden.  The monitor survived, and the hole leading to the power strip was protected, but the mouse and keyboard were sacrificed for their benefit.

XBox Modding And You.

I remember when my parents finally gave in and allowed me and my siblings to have a Nintendo. They were afraid that once we got the system, we would stop playing outside and just sit in front of the TV and get fat. Sometimes I wish I could go back to those days and play all of those old Atari, Nintendo, Super NES, Nintendo 64 and Sega games. Oh wait, I can. Yes that’s right, I can play all those plus a plethora more on my modded XBox.

Solar Charge That iPod!

I don't even know why I own an iPod. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but its spends way too much time in the bottom of my bag dead, lifeless, uncharged. I can only plug it in to the computer where all of my iTunes are stored; pluging it in to an alternate computer will erase all of my data. I need another option: enter the MySoldius universal solar charger. my-soldius.JPG

A great resource for uninstalling programs

If you've ever run into one of those applications that didn't come with an adequate uninstall program, you probably spent a lot of time trying to get your machine back to the way it was before you installed the offending application. I know I've been down this road several times with a certain messaging program and Sony Ericsson's cell phone software.

How To Email Correctly, and Improve Your Social Standing

In this world of rushing around, it seems that we no longer have time to do things properly. Being busy is no excuse for doing things half-a**ed - you must use your whole a**. Give it your ALL and put your best foot forward. This is true for email. Email is your frontline expression of who you are, and it says a lot about how you conduct your affairs.

Drain your battery in style: Motorola Bluetooth Stereo Headphones HT820

I've been battling with cords since I was a wee geek - wrestling, untangling, bundling, unbundling, plugging in, unplugging, kicking out of the wall when I was just about to win that ladder game, and of course, trying to exercise with earbuds. In my experience, you can't exercise with earbuds. In fact, I blame earbuds for at least 20 pounds of body weight I could easily be rid of if only they made earbuds for girls. This is why I've been searching for wireless headphones since I first began to... legally download music. Finally, I found the Motorola Bluetooth Wireless Stereo Headphones, which are great. They claim only 30 feet of range but I have transmitted easily across my office of probably around 1000 feet or more, with interference from other Bluetooth devices. It's nice to put my phone in my pocket and forget it's even there(until it heats up to the point that you can see the glow from my pocket.) ht820_r3qtr.jpg

Microsoft Windows Automatic Updates Broke My Computer

Windows Automatic Updates broke my computer. Well, not really. What it did do was cause my machine to hang and prompt a system error that garbled all of the text on my screen. I called my friendly tech support team and they came to the rescue, but I decided to delve a bit deeper into the problem to see what others people's experiences were. It turns out that 5 other people at my company had that exact problem, and that was just at my company alone. Think of all of the hundreds of thousands of users out there having the exact same problem. If you are like me, when the Microsoft pop-up prompts me to "run automatic updates," I just comply, fearing that if I don't my computer will be vulnerable to all of the nastiness that can affect one's machine.
