Digg Hack: Making your site look bigger than it is with DiggClick June 26, 2007

Here’s a simple trick that will amuse your friends and make it look like your site has gone from a few readers a month to a web sensation overnight.
Using your Wordpress based blog and the DiggClick plugin, change the button referral link (the value in the “digg” key field) to something like:
http://www.digg.com/news/upcoming
Rather than the paltry two or three Diggs it would usually show (come on, you know your mom is the only person who reads your blog), you’ll end up with some astronomical (but still believable) number like the button shown at the top right.
I discovered this accidentally on a previous post that had somehow ended up with the wrong URL. I haven’t looked into it, but the number is probably based on the number of stories in that category. I have since fixed the original error, but am leaving this one as is as a proof of concept.
Of course you could just make your own static button that says “1,045,356 Diggs”, but what’s the fun in that?
