Last minute Father’s Day gift: Make magazine

You can’t say we haven’t helped you out this Father’s Day. We arranged for huge discounts on the MySoldius solar charger, gave you a list of cool but inexpensive tech gifts, and we’ve even got a suggestion for you last minute shoppers: Make: magazine.

If the Dad you’re shopping for has any type of tech or do-it-yourself interests, he will love Make: magazine. I received a subscription as a gift last year and every quarter it arrives at the house chock full of cool geek projects. The most recent issue’s project’s range from a setup to help you enter lucid state dreaming to plastic working projects. Projects of various skill levels are provided so there’s something for every level of geek.

The magazine is put together well and is almost as pleasing to the eye as it is to the brain. Hats off to the graphic designers for making something that could potentially come across as a technical manual so ascetically pleasing.

Online, the magazine offers free additional content as well as some content reserved for subscribers. The website also provides a forum where readers can discuss articles and get assistance with projects.

I used to be a huge fan of Omni magazine before they went all UFO and ESP, and Make: hearkens back to some of those days. Opening an issue of Make: is like being presented with all of these new possibilities that you never knew existed and the power to make them a reality.

If you’ve procrastinated or just haven’t found anything for Father’s Day yet, this is the solution. Just head over to the site, subscribe online, and send the recipient an email letting them know. They can start using the online subscription-based content right away and not only will they get a great gift, it will look like you were actually early.

Note: For a sample of some of the cool content you’ll find in Make: check out the brain teaser from issue 10 posted in the forums.
