A great resource for uninstalling programs

If you’ve ever run into one of those applications that didn’t come with an adequate uninstall program, you probably spent a lot of time trying to get your machine back to the way it was before you installed the offending application. I know I’ve been down this road several times with a certain messaging program and Sony Ericsson’s cell phone software.

That’s why when I came across BleepingComputer.com’s uninstall database I had to spread the word. Symantec’s knowledge base will help you get rid of malware and viruses that don’t want to get removed, but what about those applications that just have bad uninstall routines? BleepingComputer has 2000+ programs listed and each entry includes information about the application’s purpose and removal. They also provide a great list of programs to make uninstalls easier and to help you monitor your system.

And if you’ve got questions about what a file on you computer is or does, check their file database. Most of the listings deal with Windows-based files, but they have over 40,000 entries and a lot of useful information.

That’s a really great resource! I also run into that, then do a manual registry search & delete for remnants… it’s tedious, and time consuming….plus it’s dangerous. I’ll put that on my fave’s for sure.
