Whether or not you rock out to the latest iPod on the market or to an 8-track player that you found in your parents' attic, the
Skullcandy Backphone Link can accommodate you. The device is a headset that plugs into both your music player of choice and your cell phone, so that you can leave your hands free and switch back and fourth between the two with the click of a button. The device works with any music player that has the standard 3.5 mm audio jack. There is a centrally located button on the microphone piece that you can use to switch back and forth between your music player and your phone. The microphone picks up sound well and doesn't have to be touching your lips to work.
The Link is somewhat user friendly, although the different functions are dependent on your cellphone model. The user can switch functions (voice activated dialing, last number dialed, mute, etc.) depending on how many times or how long you push down the button. This portion of the device is a bit too low-tech and could use an indicator of some kind so that you can actually see what you are doing.
The best part about this device for me is that I can ride my bike, listen to music and pick up my calls at the same time, something I have been wanting to do for a while. It seems like it would also be great for snowboarders and skateboarders. The device is by no means sleek - the microphone piece as well as the headset is a bit bulky, although the product also comes in an earbud model for those of you who prefer not to have something wrapped around your head during your adventures.
